Echocardiogram (2D Echo) in Beverly Hills
An echocardiogram, often called a 2D echo, is an ultrasound of the heart. It shows your heart’s chambers, valves and walls as they move, and helps your doctor see how well your heart is pumping. PrimaVue Diagnostic Imaging performs echocardiograms at our Beverly Hills office and through our mobile ultrasound service.

Why doctors order a 2D echo
An echocardiogram is one of the most common heart tests. Your doctor may order one to:
- Look into symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest discomfort, palpitations, dizziness or swelling in the legs
- Check a heart murmur or an abnormal ECG
- Measure how well the heart pumps (ejection fraction)
- Evaluate the heart valves and blood flow through the heart
- Monitor a known heart condition or high blood pressure over time
What to expect
- No preparation: eat, drink and take your medications as usual.
- Positioning: you lie on your side while small ECG stickers are placed on your chest.
- The scan: a sonographer moves a probe with warm gel across your chest to capture moving images and Doppler measurements of blood flow.
- Time: the exam usually takes about 45 to 60 minutes. There are no needles and no radiation.
- Results: your study is interpreted by a physician and the report is sent to your referring provider.

Frequently asked questions
Is an echocardiogram the same as a stress test?
No. A 2D echo looks at your heart at rest. A stress test checks how your heart responds to exercise. Your doctor will tell you which test you need; please call us to confirm availability of stress testing.
Does a 2D echo hurt?
No. You may feel light pressure from the probe, but the exam is painless.
Can I have an echocardiogram at home?
Echocardiograms are among the exams offered through our mobile ultrasound service. Call us to confirm availability for your location.
Do I need a doctor’s order?
