Vascular & DVT Ultrasound in Beverly Hills
Vascular ultrasound uses sound waves and Doppler to show blood flowing through your arteries and veins, with no needles and no radiation. PrimaVue Diagnostic Imaging offers carotid, arterial, venous (DVT) and abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) ultrasound at our Beverly Hills office and through our mobile ultrasound service.
Important: if you have sudden chest pain, shortness of breath or coughing up blood, call 911. These can be signs of a blood clot in the lungs.
Vascular exams we offer
- Leg vein (LEV) and arm vein (UEV) ultrasound — $350. Checks for blood clots (deep vein thrombosis, or DVT) when there is swelling, pain or redness, and evaluates varicose veins.
- Carotid ultrasound — $275. Looks for plaque or narrowing in the neck arteries that supply the brain.
- Leg artery (LEA) and arm artery (UEA) ultrasound — $350. Evaluates circulation, for example for leg pain when walking or slow-healing wounds (peripheral artery disease).
- Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) ultrasound — $150. Measures the main artery in the abdomen to check for a bulge.
What to expect
- Preparation: none for carotid, arm or leg exams; wear loose clothing. For an AAA exam, please don’t eat or drink for about 8 hours beforehand.
- The scan: a sonographer moves a probe with warm gel over the area and may press gently on the veins to check that they compress normally.
- Time: most vascular exams take about 30 to 60 minutes.
- Results: your study is interpreted by a physician and the report is sent to your referring provider.
Who may need a vascular ultrasound?
Doctors commonly order vascular ultrasound after surgery or long travel with new leg swelling, for people with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or a history of smoking, after a stroke or mini-stroke, or to follow up a known vascular condition.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if I have a blood clot in my leg?
Common signs are swelling, pain or tenderness, warmth and redness in one leg. Only a test such as a venous ultrasound can confirm it, so contact your doctor promptly if you notice these symptoms.
Does vascular ultrasound hurt?
No. You may feel light pressure from the probe, but the exam is painless and uses no radiation.
Can I have a vascular ultrasound at home?
